La bioéconomie de Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen : une nouvelle alliance entre l’économie et la biosphère

La bioéconomie est une nouvelle approche des relations entre l’économie et l’environnement qui a été développée par N. Georgescu-Roegen (1906-1994), un grand économiste du XXième siècle qui fut aussi mathématicien, philosophe et historien des sciences. L’économie, en tant que sous-système de la biosphère, est appréhendée dans un contexte écologique global. Par ailleurs, elle est indissociable de la dimension historique du développement des sociétés du fait de l’accès limité à un stock de ressources (énergie et matière) prélevés dans l’environnement. Cette orientation originale vise finalement à réconcilier le développement économique avec les contraintes écologiques et à conduire l’économie vers la sobriété.

Bioeconomics is a new approach to the relationship between the economy and the environment developed by N. Georgescu-Roegen (1906-1994), a great economist of the 20th century who was also a mathematician, philosopher and historian of science. The economy, as a sub-system of the biosphere, is understood in a global ecological context. It is also inseparable from the historical dimension of the development of societies, given the limited access to a stock of resources (energy and matter) taken from the environment. The ultimate aim of this original approach is to reconcile economic development with ecological constraints and to lead the economy towards sufficiency.
