How can a person be both scientist and poet, carrying out two apparently different activities that may end up being complementary? The tale of a scientific researcher who also writes verse offers insights into the question and shows that such a reconciliation can often be traced back to early childhood. The link between science and poetry may then be extended and seen in the complementary functional roles of the two hemispheres of the brain.
